Indiana casinos praise sports betting
Local casinos in Indiana argue that the legalisation of sports betting in the state has helped them boost their business.
US.- The legalisation of sports betting in the US has helped several states to obtain more revenue. Casinos have been reporting a boost in their operations for months now, and Indiana doesn’t seem to miss this sports betting trend. Local casinos have explained how sports betting is helping them be more successful.
As WSBT 22 reported, Blue Chip in Michigan City is one of the facilities in the state that have benefited from sports betting. In September, the casino registered more than US$2.8 million in sports betting and a boost in its sports bar, as revenue rose 250%.
“We’re seeing a lot of new customers in our table games area that is coming here just to bet. They come in here to place wagers on sports and head to the casino,” said Brenda Temple, VP and GM.
Indiana totalled US$34.5 million in first month of legal sports betting
The Indiana Gaming Commission recently released the financial report from September operations. That month was the first in which Indiana recorded the first full month of sports betting activity. The data shows that sports fans bet more than US$34.5 million in September.
Football was the biggest sport in the state in September, accounting for more than US$20.7 million. That figure represents 60% of the money wagered on sports during September’s operations. Besides football, wagers on the outcome of other sports totalled 28% of the market, followed by baseball’s 10% and basketball’s 2% of the sports betting market in September.
Handle in Indiana totalled US$35.2 million, which is higher than what retail sportsbooks generated in August (US$25.8 million).
