Indian gaming group responds to criticism

According to the AIGF, Goa Congress president “twisted” the interpretation of a report on betting and gambling.

India.- Goa Congress president Girish Chodankar took a shot at gambling and generated a quick reaction from the industry. According to the All India Gaming Federation (AIGF), he had “chosen to twist” the interpretation of the 276th report of the Law Commission of India on betting and gambling.

Chodankar had said that offshore casinos operated without constitutional backing and assured foreign direct investment in gambling is detrimental.

According to AIGF, his “totally false assertion” involves “incorrect reading of the extant legal and constitutional provisions and selective quoting” of the law commission report.

“He has chosen to twist the report of the Law Commission of India on betting and gambling to propound a patently false assertion that the Law Commission of India has averred or suggested that offshore casinos are operating without constitutional backing in the state and consequently asserted that offshore casinos in Goa are unconstitutional,” AIGF said.
