Indian MP questions fantasy sports legality
The representative asked the central government if it intends to regulate fantasy sports or not.
India.- Telangana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS) MP AP Jithender Reddy has recently raised a question in regards to the legality of fantasy sports in India, and while the answer from the central government has been inconclusive, it establishes that each state is eligible to come up with its own regulation.
Reddy questioned the central government on February 9 regarding its intention to propose a fantasy sports regulation, the number of cases pending in consumer courts relating to fantasy sports and whether it is a game of skill or gambling, Glaws reported.
The Union Minister of State for Finance, Pon Radhakrishnan, said that the state governments are competent to enact laws on the issue. He didn’t provide specific information on the cases pending in consumer courts relating to fantasy gaming, and did not say if the central government intends to present a law to regulate financial transactions relating to fantasy sports or gaming.
