India.- Daily fantasy sports services could legally operate in the states of Punyab and Haryana under a Court’s resolution. According to the local Justice, daily fantasy sports sector cannot be considered as a form of gambling because it operates as a game of skill. Gambling is currently illegal in India.

iGaming platforms have been banned nationwide although several operators keep running. An online daily fantasy sports site was denounced by a local player because it was seemingly breaking the law by offering online betting services. The case has passed to the High Court of Punjab and Haryana, which concluded the website is not illegal.

The Court published its resolution last week arguing daily fantasy sports are games of skills and cannot be considered as gambling. Varun Gumber, the customer from Chandigarh, capital of both Indian states, had claimed he had been a victim of illegal gambling on fantasycricket.dream11.com. The Court’s resolution marks an optimistic perspective for online and land-based gaming operators that expect further legislations in India to develop the industries.

Meanwhile, Kerala government was trying to ban lotteries conducted by the Mizoram government, as it had written to the Union Home Ministry in order to stop operations last week. The state believes that Mizoram’s lottery director violated the current regulations.
