Illinois to discuss online gambling legislation
State lawmakers are set to address a gambling expansion bill during the next legislative session in order to regulate online gambling.
US.- Online gambling failed to make its way through the Illinois Legislature during the last legislative session but it is certainly going to be discussed over the next one. As gambling expansion bills are getting debated all across the US, the Prairie State has already seen several bills failing to succeed but has already announced it will discuss the segment’s legalisation once again.
Two hearings on online gambling regulation have already been confirmed and have been scheduled for August 22nd and October 2nd. Both were set by State Rep. Bob Rita – who sponsored a gambling expansion bill in 2017 – and will take place in Springfield.
Rep. Rita expects online gambling to be legalised as he projects it could contribute up to US$700 million to the state’s coffers, an amount that would help palliate the high deficit Illinois is suffering. “As you navigate through this, when you move one component it moves three others and you [have to] carefully navigate through this to put a bill together and we’ve been working diligently on that,” he explained about the proposed bill.
