iGaming leads the UK market

Online gambling industry has reached the top ranking of most acclaimed services in the UK.

UK.- Online gambling industry leads the UK market as the largest form of gambling. The report was issued by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) last week, after an investigation held from April 2015 to March 2016. The sector represented the 33 percent of the total gross gambling revenue during the monthly activities covered by the study.

“Our latest statistics show that with the growth in online gambling the industry is increasingly taking a creative approach to using technology to engage consumers. As the online sector grows operators will also need to demonstrate that they are taking an equally innovative approach to ensuring gambling is safe for all online consumers,” commented on the results James Green, UK Gambling Commission programme director.

From 2015 to this year, licensed online gambling operators have generated £4.5 billion (US$5.6 billion), as reported in the UKGC results. iGaming incomes have surpass the amount reached by the National Lottery and land-based casinos. Betfred, Ladbrokes, William Hill and Gala Coral were the most successful companies in the industry. The National Government is currently taking measures to reinforce the legislations for the sector, after receiving several complaints about excessive advertisement campaigns and possible frauds.

Among the different sectors inside the iGaming industry, online casinos lead the market with £2.6 billion (US$3.2 billion) in annual revenues. Slots and poker services are the most acclaimed games in the platforms. Furthermore, sports betting websites follow the trend with incomes over £1.8 billion (US$2.2 billion); football generated 37 percent of revenues, whilst horseracing, 22 percent.
