iGaming continues growth in Italy

New statistics show that the Italian online gaming market grew more than a third last year.

Italy.- iGaming is continuously growing on a worldwide level, and Italy doesn’t want to be left behind. The regulated online gaming market with cash prizes increased 34 per cent in 2017, compared to 2016’s figures.

Online games make up seven per cent of the whole gaming sector in Italy, online and offline, a report from Giocco News reported. Statistics also highlight online casino games, which grew 29 per cent during 2017’s operations and are now worth €569 million. Sports betting activity also increased by 59 per cent and is valued at €56 million.

The number of Italians making bets in online poker also increased to 2.2 million, 22 per cent higher than in 2016. The market is dominated by men, who make up 82 per cent of players, while 79 per cent of them live in the south-centre of the European country.

Moreover, mobile games are also increasing in Italy, as expenditure on smartphones and tablets exceeded the €350 million mark, a 50 per cent increase over the same period a year before.
