Harrah’s New Orleans becomes first US casino to require vaccination
The Harrah’s New Orleans Hotel & Casino has become the first casino in the US to require proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test for entry.
US.- Customers will have to show proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test to access the only land-based casino in Louisiana, Harrah’s New Orleans Hotel & Casino.
The Caesars Entertainment-operated gaming venue will be the first casino in the country to have such a requirement, following a mandate from Mayor LaToya Cantrell‘s office. The mayor’s new rules cover casinos, race tracks and other businesses and will be enforced from August 23.
Julia Carcamo, owner of a New Orleans-based casino-marketing company, said: “We may see some numbers dip, but I think it’s going to be for a short time. This whole ordeal has been 18 months now, and people continue to adjust.”
Global Market Advisors director of public affairs, Brendan Bussmann, said: “It would have a short-term impact on Harrah’s property and New Orleans as it relates to travel. But it’s yet to be seen how anything else in the rest of the state would (join them).
“I’d be a little shocked if that came up anytime in the near future, based on what we’ve seen down there before.”
