Goa to shift off-shore casinos

The government of Goa has announced a plan that is set to relocate offshore casinos from the river Mandovi.

India.- The “common minimum programme” (CMP) of the government of Goa that is led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to shift off-shore casinos from the river Mandovi. The deadline to come up with a plan was extended in March to September 30.

Agriculture minister Vijai Sardesai said that among various issues on which coalition partners had agreed as the common minimum programme, it was decided that off-shore casinos would be shifted from Mandovi, as First Post reported. Although he didn’t specify the date, he said that they would be moved out in the earliest possible time. “We have not said where they will be shifted as we don’t have a clear picture at the moment,” he added.

Last year, Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that they inditified four possible locations to relocate the off shore casinos, but they were either not feasible for the operators or it presented opposition from locals.
