Goa government faces offshore casinos relocation deadline
The new site for the ships housing the casinos has not been yet decided and the deadline is March 31st.
India.- Goa government is yet to decide the new sites where offshore casinos from Mandovi river will be relocated even though March 31st deadline is imminent.
A few weeks ago, the state cabinet had promised that all the four offshore casinos vessels would be shifted to an alternate location by March 31. Now the whole initiative seems uncertain.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar expressed today (Wednesday): “The cabinet has to take the decision. I cannot decide anything on my own. The cabinet will meet this week and take the decision.” Furthermore, he admitted that the cabinet is “yet to identify the alternate site for shifting the ships housing the casinos, which are currently anchored in Mandovi river.”
The suggested sites for the relocation the cabinet had previously suggested were river Zuari, Aguada bay, Chapora and Sal but the government is facing opposition from certain quarters.
