The Gibraltar gambling regulator has accused the online casino site of wrongly using a Government of Gibraltar logo and a fake GB licence number.

Gibraltar.- The Gibraltar Gambling Division has issued a consumer warning after receiving complaints about online casino operator Luckywins (luckywins.io).

It warned that a number of players had complained about receiving “large and probably false bonus offers” urging them to sign up on the site.

The regulator also said the website “wrongly uses the Government of Gibraltar logo and a fictitious ‘GB’ licence number is completely false and misleading“.

It said that the website encouraged customers to upload documents to a site “which could be used to steal identity”.

It noted that the site claims to be located in La Linea, the town in Spain that borders with Gibraltar. While a number of B2B suppliers are named as games suppliers, the regulator speculated that this may also be misleading and that the site could be using stolen IP/code and illegally cloning game content.

Gambling commissioner Andrew Lyman said: “From time to time, illegal sites try to obtain credibility by claiming that they are licensed in Gibraltar.

“Their aim is to lull consumers into a false sense of security and we would encourage all consumers to carry out due diligence and to avoid providing any details where there are doubts about licensed status.”

The regulator said that its inquiries were ongoing and urged customers to check operators’ licence status on its own website.

At the start of the year, Lyman expressed hopes that the British overseas territory of Gibraltar would remain a major hub for gaming following the UK’s exit from the European Union.

He said he was confident that the Rock’s gambling industry would “grow and thrive” due to the territory’s size and flexibility.
