GGR expected to increase in Macau

Gross gaming revenue is expected to grow 17 to 19 percent in Macau during December’s operations.

Macau.- As Bernstein Research detailed in a note, gross gaming revenue (GGR) is expected to increase from 17 to 19 percent in December when compared to the same period in 2016. The numbers could be even better as the Christmas and New Years festivities tend to achieve stronger results.

The brokerage said that channel checks show that gross gaming revenue from December 1-17 was US$1.6 billion, showing an average daily rate of US$94 million. ADR for last week was down 16 percent week-on-week but 16 percent up year-on-year. “The VIP hold rate during the month is slightly below normal. This month, both Mass and VIP are roughly flat month to month,” and added that weekly channel checks can change pretty quickly.

Last week, Paulo Martis Chan, director of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) revealed on the sidelines of a conference in Macau that the regulation of gaming promoters will be soon tightened. The new measure will come after multiple calls for better regulations, the last one made by the president of the Association of Gaming & Entertainment Promoters of Macau, Kwok Chi Chung, who demanded a higher minimum deposit to obtain the junker promoter status. Chan revealed that the regulations will enter the legislation process in 2018. The government is considering increasing capital deposit for licensed casino junkets.
