Germans agree with gambling reform

A recent poll shows that Germans are in favour of a gambling reform to update current regulations for the industry under a single set of rules.

Germany.- Gaming regulations need continuous updating as the market evolves. That’s probably why a recent poll showed that Germans favour a gambling reform to update the local legal framework.

According to the survey, conducted by research firm Smartcon for Löwen Entertainment, locals want a single set of rules. 71% of Germans want a major revamp of the country’s gambling framework. According to locals, each segment has its own regulations and they all need to be brought under a single federal approach.

However, 61% think overregulation could have a negative impact. They stated too many consumer protection rules may drive operators away from the legal segment. That way, the black market could grow.

Gaming machine manufacturer Löwen commissioned the study to understand how the industry is evolving. “Even today, the unregulated market is growing relatively and in absolute terms more strongly than the regulated market,” they said.
