Gateway casino soon to break ground in Wasaga Beach

Gateway Casinos and Entertainment will break ground on its Wasaga Beach facility around March 2020, according to the company’s CEO.

Canada.- Last week, company executives met with municipal officials and made a key announcement. Gateway Casinos and Entertainment will break ground on Wasaga Beach next spring.

The developer’s CEO had a meeting with the city’s officials and disclosed they’ll begin working in 2020.

Mayor Nina Biflochi thanked the company in a press release for its commitment to Wasaga Beach.

“We are excited to have Gateway become a part of Wasaga Beach,” she stated. “The new casino means new direct and indirect jobs, as well as new entertainment and dining offerings.”

According to the timetable, Gateway may open its Wasaga Beach casino late in 2021. The venue will operate under the name Cascades Casino.

Opposition to the venue

Coun. Joe Belanger expressed concerns about the agreement on the site. He said he made a request to the mayor to hold a public meeting related to the site plan. “I believe the local residents have never had an opportunity to have input into the project,” he said back in July.

“There are enough residents who have expressed concern to me that it would be the transparent thing to do.”
