Gateway unveils plans for Ontario casino
The Gateway casino will be located on Wonderland Road near Wharncliffe Road, in London, Ontario.
Canada.- Gateway Casinos and Entertainment continues with its expansion, this time by unveiling plans for a casino in London, Ontario. During a public meeting at the London Chamber of Commerce, the company unveiled the plan for the 100,000 square foot “Starlight” branded facility.
Gateway Casinos will meet the Planning and Environment Committee in July to rezone its planned location on Wonderland Road near Wharncliffe Road in London. The casino will include 900 slots and 40 table games, along with several restaurants, CTV News reported.
The original plans included a US$140 million casino and hotel complex at the Western Fair, but the company decided to change its plans after negotiations with city officials stalled.
Carrie Kormos of Gateway Casinos & Entertainment, explained: “We’ve tried to revamp our proposal and our plans to be suitable to that neighbourhood or that commercial zone. However, the number of amenities and the level of fit and finish will be just as spectacular as we were planning at our previous site.”
The new proposal doesn’t include a hotel and it is estimated that it will be worth US$75 million. The facility is expected to open in 2021.
“We really envision London being the hub of the entertainment experience in Southwestern Ontario,” said Kormos. “Whether you’re looking for a night out of live entertainment or dining or gambling, we’re going to have lots of options to suit all of those tastes. Many of our restaurants also will be family-friendly, which we think is exciting,” she added.
