Denmark.- Operators in the Danish gambling market have launched a new industry board to deal with complaints about adverts.

The Gambling Advertising Board – Spilreklamenævnet in Danish – will allow both consumers and organisations to lodge complaints about gambling marketing.

Ten operators and bodies have confirmed their support for the board: Elite Gaming, Dansk Automat Brancheforening, Dansk Kasinoforening, Danske Lotteri Spil, Danske Spil, Det Danske Klasselotteri, Landbrugslotteriet, Royal Casino, Varelotteriet and the Danish Online Gambling Association.

Judge Jacob Scherfig of Copenhagen City Court will be the board’s first chairman. Thomas Marcussen, clinic manager for the Research Clinic for Gambling Addiction at Aarhus University Hospital, and Lars Pynt Andersen, an associate professor at Aalborg University, will also be on the board alongside Danske Spil legal director Kate Jacquerot and Morten Rønde, director of Danish responsible gaming organisation, Spillebranchen.

Erik Jensen from Casino Copenhagen and Gunnar Sørensen, chairman of Dansk Automat Brancheforening, will sit on the board but will only take part when complaints relate to land-based slot machines or casinos. The board has received its first complaint already and has taken up a second of its own volition.

Rønde said: “In the gaming industry, we are very aware that we bear a responsibility for the users who use games. With the Gaming Advertising Board, we now have an effective watchdog, which must help to ensure and maintain a responsible and ethical marketing of games.”

In July, the Danish gambling regulator, Spillemyndigheden, updated its advertising regulations to stipulate that all bonuses must be made available for a minimum of 60 days. The update follows an executive order from the government to change Spillemyndigheden’s regulations for online casino, land-based betting and online betting.
