Galaxy remains confident on Boracay casino
The company remains “very confident” of its chances to develop a casino resort in the Philippine island.
Philippines.- The Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has been categorical regarding a ban on casino resort developments in the island of Boracay, but that hasn’t stopped Galaxy Entertainment Group’s wish to build its own. According to the casino operator’s chairman Lui Che Woo, the company remains “very confident” that it will develop the venue and said they aren’t listening to “unofficial commentary” around the topic.
In addition to Lui Che Woo’s comments, vice-chairman Francis Lui Yiu Tung had already stated that the development could still be realised despite President Duterte’s comments on the matter. Nonetheless, Andrea Domingo, chairwoman of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (Pagcor), explained: “there was a pronouncement from the President so we have to respect that”.
Lui Che Woo had also said: “We want to lure high-end customers to come and enjoy, and to help the Philippines lift its status. It is no longer the top-tier natural scenic place it once was due to pollution and sub-standard facilities. Gaming will actually be a small portion, we expect a few dozen tables, as this is not our focus for Boracay.”
