Florida Gaming Control Commission seizes illegal gaming machines

The regulator has confiscated 20 slot and two coin pusher machines and seized $25,659 in cash.

US.- The Florida Gaming Control Commission (FGCC) and the Port Orange Police Department have removed illegal gambling machines from three businesses. The FGCC confiscated 20 slot and two coin pusher machines, while the Port Orange Police Department seized $25,659 in cash during the operations.

According to the FGCC, the three bar operators were charged for possession of slot machines as well as for keeping a gambling house. They have been given a notice to appear in court.

Agents seized eight slot machines and one-coin pusher plus more than $3,500 in cash at a store named Mulligans Grill. Meanwhile, agents made a similar seizure of machines at The Dog House along with $6,000 in cash. They also seized six slot machines and over $15,500 in cash at Port Hole.

The Florida regulator noted that slot machines are only permitted in eight licensed pari-mutuel gaming facilities in Miami-Dade and Broward counties and at seven Seminole Tribe of Florida venues.

FGCC executive director Alana Zimmer said: “The Florida Gaming Control Commission is joining with other law enforcement agencies to stop illegal gambling in our state. If businesses are unclear on the legality of their machines, they can contact the FGCC anytime for direction and clarification. This information can also protect their other state issued licenses, which are often in use at the same establishment.”

Florida bill proposes measures to combat fixed sports bets

A new Florida bill proposes penalties for people who knowingly place bets on rigged games. House Bill 189, sponsored by Republican Rep. Dana Trabulsy, would make it a third-degree felony to place a wager on any sporting event, professional or amateur, if the bettor knows the result has been rigged. It updates existing laws that already make it illegal to bribe players to throw a game.

A bill focusing on tightening restrictions on online gambling in Florida was proposed earlier this year but stalled before reaching a vote.
