Five Connecticut municipalities interested in new casino
The deadline to apply for the right to host a new Connecticut casino development was extended for another month.
US.- A joint venture called MMCT Venture confirmed that has received proposals from five different Connecticut municipalities to host the new casino. MMCT is conformed by the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. Together, they’re planning a third casino in the north of the state, and they’re already evaluating the latest submissions.
MMCT wants to build a US$250 million casino near the border with Massachusetts to compete with the US$950 million MGM Resorts international project that is set to open in the summer of 2018. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation operates the Foxwoods Resort Casino near Ledyard, whilst the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority is responsible for the Mohegan Sun resort in Uncasville.
Matthew Galligan, Town Manager for South Windsor, one of the bidders, said: “We’re eight minutes out of Hartford and I think it’s a great site. We’re ready to go. There’s sewer, water and gas service there now. It’s very viable.”
Chairman for the Mohegan Tribal Council Kevin Brown said that now more than ever, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and Mohegan tribes are confident that the site they select will make their facility competitive with MGM Springfield. “We look forward to reviewing and comparing these new and amended submissions and continuing a dialogue with Connecticut’s communities about how we can work together to save jobs and revenue in our state,” he added.
