Green light for first tribal casino on Las Vegas strip

Mohegan Sun has the recommendation of the Nevada Gaming Control Board but still needs formal approval.

US.- The Nevada Gaming Control Board has given its recommendation for Mohegan Sun to operate the first tribal casino on the Las Vegas strip.

The recommendation came after Mohegan Sun executives outlined in a presentation to the board how they plan to attract visitors to Las Vegas from the East Coast, Canada, and South Korea.

The property in question is the former Hard Rock Hotel, which will be rebranded the Mohegan Sun Casino at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. It is due to open in January 2021.

The tribe does not yet have formal approval, for which it must wait until the next meeting of the Nevada Gaming Control Board on October 22.

CEO of Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, Mario Kontomerkos, said: “We have been exploring a location in Las Vegas for many years.”

He said the brand had a “phenomenal opportunity here in front of us to showcase who we are and our brand and technology and our style of service, which is amongst the best if not the best in the industry.”
