FanDuel to honour bet after glitch
The company had first declined to pay the US$110 bet made in New Jersey.
US.- FanDuel, DFS fiant and sports betting operator, has backtracked its decision to not pay out on an erroneous ticket that made someone win US$82k in New Jersey. The local gaming regulator is investigating the company after such a glitch took place in its system.
The glitch gave an NFL team up to 75k odds of completing a comeback and set that the company had to pay US$82k. While it first refused – as it argued that the odds should have been listed at -600, which have paid a profit of US$18.35 – it now revealed that despite having rules that back the initial decision, it will pay out the odds offered by the pricing error.
“For those familiar with the industry these rules are understood, but we realize a lot of our customers are new to sports betting and were not familiar. We want FanDuel to be a sportsbook for all bettors, and we want sports betting to be fun. So, this one’s on the house. We are paying out these erroneous tickets and wish the lucky customers well,” said the company in a statement.
David Rebuck, director of the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), said last week that the agency is investigating how the glitch occurred given internal controls exist to prevent that type of error.
