DraftKings obtains approval in Malta
The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has granted DraftKings the DFS license.
Malta.- The leading operator of daily fantasy sports sector DraftKing has obtained a gaming license to operate in the European market. The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has allowed the company to expand its services under 2016’s Skill Games regulatory framework. The new license enables DraftKings to extend its platform to EU jurisdictions where local regulators have not required further licenses and where sports betting have not been banned.
“We are excited to embark on this important phase of our international expansion”, DraftKings co-founder and CEO Jason Robins commented to the Legal Sports Report. “We are pleased that Malta has recognised the need for special licensing of daily fantasy sports and other skilled based games. The Malta Gaming Authority is an innovative organisation and it is clear that they have put a lot of though and rigor into this process.”
As DraftKings Chief International Officer Jeffrey Haas commented to the local press, the company is especially interested in expanding its operations to Germany and Malta. The company will contribute with a 5 percent gross gaming revenue tax.
