Seminole Tribe to offer sports betting in Florida
The Seminole Tribe can operate from October 15.
US.- A compact that allows the Seminole Tribe to operate sports betting and add roulette and craps to its casinos in Florida has been approved by the Federal Department of the Interior.
Under the agreement, the Seminoles can begin to offer sports betting from October 15. Online sports betting also will be allowed.
The US Department of the Interior had 45 days to approve or reject the sports betting compact that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the council chairman of the Seminole in Florida, Marcellus Osceola Jr, signed in April.
DeSantis said: “The final approval of this historic gaming compact is a big deal for the State of Florida.
“This mutually beneficial agreement will grow our economy, expand tourism and recreation and provide billions in new revenue to benefit Floridians.”
Osceola Jr. said: “Today is a great day for the people of Florida, who will benefit not only from a $2.5 billion revenue sharing guarantee over five years but also from statewide sports betting and new casino games that will roll out this fall and mean more jobs for Floridians and more money invested in this state”.
Florida will potentially receive $20bn over the next 30 years under the agreement.
