Delaware sports betting handle climbs 145.9% in September
The Delaware Lottery has released the state’s September figures for sports betting, showing a significant rise from August.
US.- Delaware’s sports betting handle increased by 145.9 per cent in September on a month-by-month basis, according to the latest statistics from the Delaware Lottery.
September’s handle totalled $7.27m, more than double August’s $2.96m.
Still, this September’s handle was a drop of 38 per cent on the $11.84m wagered in the same month last year.
Although online sports betting is legal in the state, at present there is no online operator, meaning all sports betting takes place at Delaware’s land-based casinos.
The casino that presented the best figures for the month was Delaware Park, which took $3.6m in sports bets resulting in $425,002 of revenue.
Next to follow was Harrington Raceway’s sportsbook which took $1.9m in wagers, and generated $254,809 in revenue.
Last place was Dover Downs, despite being first in August. Bettors there placed $1.7m in sports bets, which provided $224,639 of revenue.
Delaware is one of the few states that offers igaming options to residents, and the month of September saw 571 new registrations. The state recently appointed a a five-person authority to oversee the distribution of funds from online gaming.
