Danske Spil names Lars Krarup as new chairman

Krarup was recommended by the Ministry of Finance to chair the Danish gambling operator.

Denmark.- Lars Krarup has been named chairman of the Danish state-controlled gambling operator Danske Spil. He will take up the role on June 3. Charlotte Bach will remain deputy chairman, a position she has held since 2022.

Krarup, who was recommended for the position by the Ministry of Finance, has been the leader of Herning Municipality for over 19 years. He has also served as chairman of the private body Realdania, which funds architecture and urban development projects, as well as the state-run elite sports body Team Danmark and Sport Event Denmark, which works to draw major sporting events to the country.

He has also been a board member of the financial body KommuneKredit, which provides credit to local governments, and KL, which represents Danish municipalities.

Krarup emphasised Danske Spil’s social role and commitment to responsible gaming. He said: “In my roles in public service and sports, I have witnessed how Danske Spil’s profits strengthen communities at various levels. It is an honor to contribute to securing a solid financial foundation for Danish associations and numerous valuable initiatives.”

Danske Spil’s revenue reached DKK 5.26bn (€705m) in 2024, a rise from DKK 5.04bn (€676m) in 2023. Growth was boosted by the unusually high number of 13 maximum jackpots in Eurojackpot. Net profit after tax increased to DKK 1.95bn (€261m) and with contributions to society reached a record DKK 3.28bn (€440m).
