NY Governor wants sports betting at upstate casinos

The Governor wants to authorise sports betting at the four casinos located in upstate New York.

US.- Andrew Cuomo, governor of New York, talked about sports betting during his State of the State speech on Tuesday, and said that he wants sports betting to be authorised at the four upstate casinos.

Cuomo intends this to happen within the first 100 days of the year, as part of his 2019 agenda. While he did not discuss the subject any further during his speech, he stated that they invested in upstate casinos and therefore they should authorise sports betting there.

”[Sports betting] is here, it’s a reality, and it will help generate activity in those casinos,” he said. The four casinos located in upstate New York were projected to help with state revenue, but all of them have struggled in recent months to meet expectations.

It is believed that revenue from sports betting will help the Governor close a US$3 billion fiscal gap, part of his US$170 billion budget package that he presented on Monday to the state legislature.
