Connecticut casinos analyse competition

The latest financial figures from the two Connecticut casinos indicate that the impact from MGM Springfield hasn’t been as bad as expected.

US.- The two casinos in Connecticut feared that the opening of MGM Springfield in neighbouring Massachusetts would impact their revenues and operations, but a year later the facilities haven’t suffered as much as expected.

According to Hartford Courant, the President and General Manager of Mohegan Sun Ray Pineault said that the casino is pleased with its performance against new competitors. He said that they’re also competing with a new facility north of Boston.

“We have now lapped a full year of MGM Springfield opening for year-over-year comparison and although Encore has only been open less than six months, we have been pleased with our performance against both of these new competitors in the market. We continue to believe our exceptional guest service gives us a significant edge, especially with loyal guests who continue to choose Mohegan Sun, even in situations where they may now have gaming options closer by,” Pineault said.

State budget contributions

The state budget indicated that the contributions from Connecticut casinos would be below the US$200 million line. However, the figures were too low, as it is now expected that the number will be around US$226 million for this fiscal year and US$225.4 million for the next one.
