Chinese lottery sales rose 61.9 pct during July

According to the Ministry of Finance, the sales of official lottery products reached €6.78 billion and jumped 61.9% year-on-year.

China.- The World Cup had a big impact on Mainland China’s sales of official lottery products, which grew 61.9% year-on-year during July to €6.78 billion. The increase was mainly due to a major jump in sports lottery sales during the first half of the month as the final stage of the FIFA World Cup was still ongoing.

Sports lottery sales jumped 117.5% year-on-year to almost €4.4 billion, fuelled by football’s most important tournament, which ended on July 15th. Meanwhile, welfare lottery tickets’ sales rose by 9.7% compared to the same month last year, as they reached €2.37 billion.

July’s results had sales of lottery tickets up 25.6% during the first seven months of the year to nearly €37.2 billion. Sports lottery tickets amounted to €21.11 billion of the total January-July figure, up 47.6% over the same period in 2017.

Guangdong led the lottery market in mainland China once again as its sales reached €3.43 billion, up 18.9%. Jiangsu came in second place after growing 35.2% year-on-year to €3.23 billion, while Shandong ranked third with €2.83 billion worth of sales, up 18.8%.
