Chief of Gomoa Assin wants to ban gambling in his town
The Odikro or chief of Gomoa Assin, a town located in the Central region of Ghana wants to regulate gambling operations in the area.
Ghana.- Nana Asahoma V, the Odikro of Gomoa Assin in the Central region, appealed to the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa West, Theophilus Adu Mensah, to take steps to regulate operations of gambling centres and slot machines in the area.
According to Nana Asahoma V, regulation will make it possible for pupils in the constituency to desist from gambling and focus on their studies.
The Odikro made the appeal at the handing over ceremony of a three-unit classroom block. “Some white men in this town have set up jackpots [slot machines] all around. This has contributed to social vices.,” he said. “Some pupils steal money to [gamble]. We cannot, therefore, blame teachers for poor performances of students. DCE, we are pleading with you, we will cease all the [gambling] in town.”
