Casino revenue up in Northwest Indiana
The 5 casinos closed winter with February reflecting a 6 percent growth year-on-year.
US.- Northwest Indiana’s casinos experienced a revenue increase of about 6 percent in February as compared to the same month a year ago. Its five casinos totalled US$84.1 million last month, compared to US$79.3 million in February 2015.
However, the region’s largest casino, Horseshoe Hammond, saw a 1.2 percent drop to US$35.6 million in total revenue.
On the other hand, Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City led the wins with a 14.8 percent increase, totalling US$13.2 million. East Chicago-based Ameristar Casino saw a 13.2 percent leap to US$21 million. Majestic Star Casino’s two Gary boats saw gaming revenue grow of 8.1 percent amounting to US$14.4 million.
The state’s 13 gaming facilities had a great month in general, with a gambling win of US$192.2 million, compared to US$178.7 million in February 2015. Attendance at the casinos increased nearly 5 percent, from 816,926 last year in February to 856,700 this year.
Nita, Horseshoe Hammond senior vice president and general manager said:”It’s a good way to start the year. We played unlucky at the table games, as compared to last year. We had some bigger customer wins this year,” and he added, “I’m excited we had three months in a row.”
On its part, Matt Schuffert, Ameristar vice president and general manager expressed: “We’re very happy with our growth. Fourteen of the last 18 months we have shown growth.”
