Casino developer, closer to New Jersey licence

The state’s Casino Control Commission granted a developer a certificate of compliance which clears him to get a casino licence.

US.- A new venue may soon begin to be developed in New Jersey as the Casino Control Commission (CCC) gave Philadelphia developer Bart Blatstein a certificate of compliance. The approval gives the businessman the possibility to be eligible for a casino licence in the state.

According to Baltstein, he will develop a casino structure on a 123k square-foot lot northeast of Showboat. “The old-style casinos are no longer in vogue,” he said. “This gives me an opportunity to do something for today and tomorrow.”

There have been no further details revealed, nor size-wise nor time related.

Another casino entering the market is possible, according to gaming-industry consultant Robert Ambrose, who explained that needs to draw a customer base beyond regular gamblers that may attend the casino in New Jersey.

“Growth today has to be strategic, slow and steady in all areas, not just gaming,” said Ambrose. “As the market growth returns to what we can call a new normal for Atlantic City, there is substantial non-gaming spending throughout the city happening now.”

According to the latest information released by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), total gaming revenue for February 2019 was US$223.3 million in Atlantic City.

The increase in revenue for casinos in New Jersey represents a 21% increase when compared to the same period a year before, and the ninth consecutive month of highs in the gambling hub from New Jersey. Ever since the opening of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Ocean Resort Casino in June 2018, casino revenue in the city has increased by double-digits every month.

Casino win was up US$26 million in February when compared to February 2018, which represents a 15.7% rise, while table games accounted US$57 million and showed an increase of 24.4%. Moreover, slot machine win rose 12.4% to US$139.6 million and online gambling showed the biggest percentage increase (44%) to US$31.7 million.
