Canada’s Durham Live to get casino

The Ontario Durham Live commercial centre proposal by OGGLP will include a casino resort, the company stated.

Canada.- Ontario Gaming GTA LP (OGGLP) has confirmed that its Durham Live commercial centre project will host a new casino. The company is expected to seek municipal permitting to move forward with the development that would include several amenities in addition to the gaming development.

OGGLP has further stated that the existing Casino Ajax will be relocated once the casino resort at Durham Live is operational in late 2019. The development is estimated to create 10,000 local jobs, including approximately 2,000 staff (1,700 more than the Casino Ajax) that will work at the casino resort alone.

The company was chosen by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation as the winning proponent back in August 2017 and scored the rights to operate three gaming venues for a minimum period of 22 years in the Greater Toronto Area, which work under the brands Casino Woodbine, Casino Ajax and Great Blue Heron Casino.

“We are thrilled to invest the casino revenues back into our greater community,” said Pickering Mayor Dave Ryan and added: “Pickering will share up to 30 per cent of its revenues with the Region of Durham, and we suggest that a portion of these funds be earmarked for social housing in order to secure matching funding from the senior levels of government.”
