Canada evaluates new casino
The City Council of London in Canada is evaluating the possible approval of new gaming salon.
Canada.- A new casino operated by OLG and Gateway Casinos and Entertainment Limited is being discussed by the City Council of London in Canada. The governmental representatives have been holding several meetings to debate on different proposals to boost the local economy and social development.
Among the proposals, the government has introduced the possible approval of a new casino in the Canadian city of London. According to official press, residents of the city will be able to present their opinions about the new gaming salon throughout different public consultation meetings, which are going to be held in the following weeks.
“Gateway, a Canadian entertainment giant, has plans to build a casino that would include a hotel, eateries and gaming slots. The proposed US$140 million project would employ 700 people. Gateway currently employs about 300 people at the Western Fair Slots,” stated the official announcement, released by CBC.
OLG (Ontario Lottery and Gaming), which has been named as potential operator of London’s casino, is currently going through structural changes as it could be partially privatised. The New Democratic Party (NDP) questioned the decision to privatise part of it, as it believes that Ontario would lose millions in revenue. John Vanthof, NDP’s Finance critic, urged Financial Accountability Officer Stephen LeClair to determine how much money would be lost. After the debate on the issue, the City Council will continue to evaluate it as a possible operator.
