California to discuss a new casino
The Timbisha Shoshone Tribe proposed a US$29 million casino.
US.- Kern County, California, will host a meeting where officials will discuss a proposal submitted by the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe. The facility would be located in Ridgecrest, near the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake.
The tribe said that they want to build a 20.000 square feet casino to boost the economy and be able to help members of their tribe with basic needs such as medical costs or even to build a better future for the younger population. The proposal includes an entertainment lounge, along with six table games and approximately 350 slot machines. George Gholson, Tribal Chairman for the Timbisha Shoshone tribe, said: “This casino endeavor is going to be very profitable for everybody involved, including the city.”
The Ridgecrest City Council will discuss the potential plan because they still face numerous steps in order to approve the proposal. Economic Development Manager Gary Parsons said: “I have been approached by members of the community who stated they were asked by the developer to be an investor in the casino development. If funding is unavailable/unattainable or with the recent administration change this project has become a no go for the Tribe, would they like to exit the escrow agreement now?” The tribe said that they will answer as soon as possible, but they’re aware that they might need private funding.
