Belleville’s casino gets green light
A resolution to allow the city of Belleville to sign an agreement with Great Canadian Gaming Corporation for the construction of a casino, was approved unanimously.
Canada.- The Belleville City Council voted in favour of a of a special bylaw that would authorise the city to allow the construction of a casino within its limits. The Great Canadian Gaming Corporation will be the operator responsible for this project. The gaming venue will be located on Bell Boulevard occupying a 48,000-square-foot site and employing 300 people, benefiting the residents of the area.
Officials from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) led by Jake Pastore, Director of Municipal and Community Relations, explained that 5.25 percent of the first C$65 million (US$46.19m) generated by the venue’s electronic games will be given to the community and will be allocated to fund various important causes. Furthermore, 4 percent of the income from table games will also go to the city.
Taso Christopher, Belleville’s Mayor, met with both the OLG and the Great Canadian delegations, which is a sign that he is well-disposed towards the construction of a casino in his city.
