BCLC online gambling posts double digit growth
Authorities revealed that online gambling in British Columbia reached a double digit revenue growth.
Canada.- The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) released the numbers that showed that slots activity helped achieve a double digit growth in online gambling. Net income for 2016-2016 hit a new record and surpassed the expectations set by the BCLC by US$76 million.
BCLC’s net income during the 12 month period hit US$1.07 billion, a 2 percent increase when compared to the fiscal 2015-2016, whilst revenue hit a record of US$2.5 billion, a US$33 million increase over the last results. The corporation said that innovation and capitalising on strategic investments in slots offering in casino and online helped them achieve the numbers.
The local online gambling sector, driven by PlayNow.com, contributed with revenue of US$126 million, a 16 percent higher than the same period a year before and more than the double it generated in 2012-2013. Content innovation through the continuous introduction of new content is one of the reasons why BCLC believes that PlayNow.com is growing so fast.
Moreover, the land-based sector that includes 15 casinos, 18 community gaming censers, two racecourse casinos and sic commercial bingo venues, totaled revenue of US$1.4 billion, an improvement of US$35 million, as CalvinAyre reported.
