Athens rejects slot operations

The authorised proliferation of slot machines in Greece would be blocked by Athens Municipality.

Greece.- The Greek independent authority Commission for Supervision and Regulation of Gaming introduced a gaming project to grant further licenses to operate authorised slot machines. However, the new measure would be blocked after the Athens Municipality and several casino groups filed a formal motion to stop the licensing process.

Officials from the national capital city as well as casino operators from Ionian island of Corfu in Alexandroupolis and from Patras city presented the blocking petition to the highest administrative court Council of State on December 29, 2016.

Last week’s strong opposition follows the motion presented a few weeks back by both of the biggest casinos of Greece, the Athens-area Regency atop Mont Parnes and Club Hotel Casino Loutraki. The Greek independent authority proposal was to approve casino licenses to add the operation of 35,000 video lottery terminals countrywide.
