Wynn Macau to reduce plastic use and food waste
Wynn will become the first integrated resort in the world to install and use at significant scale an on-site Nordaq water bottling plant.
Macau.- Wynn Macau wants to help contribute to a greener Macau, announcing two new initiatives to reduce plastic use and food waste in its integrated resorts. Wynn will become the first integrated resort in the world to install and use at significant scale an on-site Nordaq water bottling plant.
With the Nordaq system, Wynn will produce high-quality filtered water that can be offered in reused glass bottles. This will eliminate the production, transportation and supply of approximately 8 million plastic bottles annually.
Wynn aims to end the use of plastic water bottles, first in all hotel and food and beverage operations, by mid-2020 and then in all gaming operations by year-end 2021.
Wynn is a pioneer in reducing food waste, an issue with both economic and environmental costs. It is the first company in Macau to adopt the “Winnow Vision System” across its properties. The system uses computer vision-based monitoring technology powered by AI and machine-learning to track and measure food waste.
According to Wynn Macau, the initiative has already cut food waste by up to 35% and reduced costs while also ensuring a more responsible use of precious resources.
