{"id":9882,"date":"2020-09-10T22:29:12","date_gmt":"2020-09-10T22:29:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=9882"},"modified":"2026-04-24T01:56:52","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T04:56:52","slug":"ipi-faces-another-legal-complaint","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/ipi-faces-another-legal-complaint","title":{"rendered":"IPI faces another legal complaint"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A former plaintiff says the company has failed to fulfil an agreed settlement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Northern Mariana\u00a0Islands.-\u00a0Imperial Pacific International faces yet more legal woes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An engineering firm with whom it reached a legal settlement in March says the Saipan casino operator has failed to comply with the agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Geo Testing Inc. had sued IPI for US$454,934 in damages and interest over unpaid work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The companies reached a settlement for a lower amount and IPI made an initial payment of US$50,000, which was to be followed by monthly payments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now Geo Testing is asking the Northern Marianas Island\u2019s Superior Court to intevene and enforce the settlement, claiming that IPI has not made any of the monthy payments that were agreed in March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The firm\u2019s legal representative says the unpaid debt of US$129,035\u00a0has accumulated 9 per cent interest, and that now IPI now owes Geo Testing\u00a0$130,911, accruing interest of $31.81 per day\u00a0until the amount outstanding is paid in full.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IPI is also facing claims for <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/n-mariana-islands-claim-priority-over-ipi-assets\" target=\"_blank\">outstanding debts<\/a><\/em><\/strong> of over US$9 million from the\u00a0Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands itself and for over US$5 million from Pacific Rim.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A former plaintiff says the company has failed to fulfil an agreed settlement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":9884,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Imperial Pacific International (IPI), a Saipan casino operator, faces renewed legal action from Geo Testing Inc. for failing to comply with a March settlement agreement regarding unpaid engineering work.
