{"id":8998,"date":"2020-08-13T23:04:43","date_gmt":"2020-08-13T23:04:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=8998"},"modified":"2026-04-24T02:46:02","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T05:46:02","slug":"chinese-tourists-will-prefer-macau-over-hong-kong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/chinese-tourists-will-prefer-macau-over-hong-kong","title":{"rendered":"Chinese tourists will prefer Macau over Hong Kong"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A survey from Morgan Stanley found that with travel visas being reinstated, inbound tourists are more likely to choose Macau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- As individual and group <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-individual-visa-scheme-to-resume-august-12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">travel visas are to return<\/a><\/em><\/strong> for some areas of mainland China, a survey from Morgan Stanley predicts tourists will chose Macau over Hong Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey was carried out by the research unit Morgan Stanley AlphaWise amongst 2,667 Chinese residents aged 18-49 from Tier 1-3 cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The results showed that 58 per cent still fear catching Covid-19 when travelling abroad, and another 46 per cent don&#8217;t want to get stuck away from home if lockdown measures and travel restrictions are imposed again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since travel options are still scarce and Macau has remained without new community transmitted cases of Covid-19 for over 130 days, the research firm says it is very likely the city will be seen as a better option for Chinese tourists instead of Hong Kong once the visas system returns to all provinces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The analysts said: \u201cWe expect significant increase in visitation\/GGR over the next three months as more IVS (Individual Visitor Scheme) visas are issued from Zhuhai (from August 12), <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/guangdong-will-also-resume-ivs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Guangdong (August 26)<\/a><\/em><\/strong> and whole of China (September 23).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While restrictions remain, less than 6 per cent of respondents confirmed they already have intentions to travel to Macau, hence Morgan Stanley still foresees a period of low gaming revenue ahead for the city.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A survey from Morgan Stanley found that with travel visas being reinstated, inbound tourists are more likely to choose Macau.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":9001,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"A Morgan Stanley survey indicates Chinese tourists will favor Macau over Hong Kong once travel visas are reinstated, driven by COVID-19 fears and Macau's sustained low case count.
