{"id":8615,"date":"2020-08-01T16:27:28","date_gmt":"2020-08-01T16:27:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=8615"},"modified":"2026-04-24T03:10:23","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T06:10:23","slug":"lvs-president-macau-will-recover-before-vegas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/lvs-president-macau-will-recover-before-vegas","title":{"rendered":"LVS president: Macau will recover before Vegas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Robert Goldstein expects the resumption of the IVS scheme for Chinese tourists late in the summer or fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- Robert Goldstein, president of the American gaming giant, Las Vegas Sands (LVS), has outlined the company\u2019s plan to recover from the Covid-19 hit on finances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Goldstein has said he expects Las Vegas to continue to struggle financially until something changes the public\u2019s perception on the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Casinos in Las Vegas began reopening in June, but as Goldstein says, the city depends heavily on tourism. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said LVS is expecting its Macau business to recover first. Its Macau and Singapore resorts generate about 90 per cent of the group\u2019s EBITDA, and obtain 60 per cent of their revenue from Chinese tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Goldstein welcomed the fact that mainland China\u00a0will resume issuing business, study and government related visas to <strong><em><a aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-to-partially-resume-macau-sar-visas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">travel to Macau on August 12<\/a><\/em><\/strong> but said the IVS scheme was needed to see significant change news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cIt\u2019s a step in the right direction, but not the step.\u201d To him, the main change will occur when the individual visas scheme (IVS), which a tourism travelling permits, is operational again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He believes the IVS will begin issuing travel authorisations for Chinese tourists \u201cin the course of the summer or fall.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added: \u201cIt will be slow. It will not be large steps.
