{"id":8524,"date":"2020-07-29T21:49:01","date_gmt":"2020-07-29T21:49:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=8524"},"modified":"2026-04-24T03:14:53","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T06:14:53","slug":"macau-hotel-occupancy-down-64-per-cent-for-h1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-hotel-occupancy-down-64-per-cent-for-h1","title":{"rendered":"Macau Hotel occupancy down 64 per cent for H1"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The amount of locals registering in hotels and guesthouses grew in June due to promotions, but foreign visitor levels continued to drop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- The Macau Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has revealed that for the first half of 2020 hotel and guesthouse occupancy in the city dropped 63.9 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The average occupancy rate of guest rooms was 27.2 per cent, and the number of guests declined by 73.5 per cent to 1,830,000 people in total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The average length of stay during the first six months of the year went up by 0.2 night to 1.7 nights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June, only 109 hotels and guesthouses were open for business, with the number of rooms available falling by 10.6 per cent year-on-year, to 35,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Average occupancy rate of guest rooms fell by 77.6 per cent year-on-year for month, and 84.7 per cent for 5-star hotels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The number of guests who checked into hotels and guesthouses as a whole reduced in June by 88 per cent year-on-year, to 134,000. Of those, 67,000 came from mainland China and another 11,000 from Hong Kong, <strong><em>DSEC<\/em><\/strong> said. Both numbers were down by more than 90 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The service said local guests in June reached 53,000, up by 4.2 per cent on May.
