{"id":8394,"date":"2020-07-23T23:09:50","date_gmt":"2020-07-23T23:09:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=8394"},"modified":"2026-04-24T03:22:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T06:22:14","slug":"skycity-receives-nz9-4m-in-further-wage-subsidies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/skycity-receives-nz9-4m-in-further-wage-subsidies","title":{"rendered":"SkyCity receives NZ$9.4m in further wage subsidies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>New Zealand&#8217;s SkyCity has now received a total NZ$31 million in wage subsides during the pandemic crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>New Zealand.- SkyCity Entertainment Group has received further wage subsidies that amount to eight weeks of payment for each of its 2,219 workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new subsidy of NZD$9.4 million (US$6.2 million) was agreed as revenues have declined more than 40 per cent in the past forty days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It had already received a subsidy of NZD$21.6 million (US$14.3 million) to issue paychecks before making layoffs as a result of the pandemic. When it received the previous subsidy, it had 3,272 employees at its casinos in Australia and New Zealand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SkyCity was <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/skycity-new-zealand\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">one of the first operators to resume operations<\/a><\/em><\/strong> in the Asia Pacific region but it continues to feel the impact of the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group has said its gaming business has picked up faster than other areas such as the hotel and food and beverages outlets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said in an email quoted by Agbrief: \u201cAs with so many businesses in New Zealand, the COVID-19 crisis has fundamentally changed the SkyCity business for the foreseeable future.
