{"id":8136,"date":"2020-07-15T21:46:27","date_gmt":"2020-07-15T21:46:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=8136"},"modified":"2026-04-24T03:38:19","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T06:38:19","slug":"resorts-world-sentosa-to-lay-off-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/resorts-world-sentosa-to-lay-off-staff","title":{"rendered":"Resorts World Sentosa to lay off staff"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The resort and casino owned by Genting Singapore will cut a &#8220;significant&#8221; number of jobs to reduce costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Singapore.- One of Singapore\u2019s largest private employers, Resorts World Sentosa, has announced it will reduce staff to cut costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The number of lay-offs at the resort, which is owned by Genting Singapore, was not revealed, but a spokersperson told The Straits Times they would be &#8220;significant&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reuters reported that employees arriving at work yesterday (Wednesday) were told to talk with human resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Singapore&#8217;s National Trades Union Congress is said to be negotiating Genting Singapore on compensation terms for employees who are laid off and searching for job placements for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Resorts World Sentosa received <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/singapore-irs-given-green-light-to-reopen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the green-light to resume limited operations<\/a><\/strong><\/em> at the end of June, but remains severely impacted by Covid-19 travel restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The resort said in a statement: \u201cOver the past few months, we have reviewed all costs, eliminated non-essential spending, and reduced the salaries of management by up to 30 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> &#8220;We have made the difficult decision to implement a one-off workforce rationalisation.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Edge Market reported that Singapore\u2019s economy declined 41 per cent year-on-year during the second quarter of the year.
