{"id":7885,"date":"2020-07-06T22:12:46","date_gmt":"2020-07-06T22:12:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=7885"},"modified":"2026-04-24T03:52:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T06:52:07","slug":"ape-expands-on-plans-to-enter-sports-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/ape-expands-on-plans-to-enter-sports-business","title":{"rendered":"APE expands on plans to enter sports business"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>APE&#8217;s plans include partnering with the Macau government to promote large events and create sports bars in association with hotels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- The electronic gaming machines manufacturer Asia Pioneer Entertainment (APE) has released further details about its plan to expand into sports-related businesses in Macau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of June, APE announced through a filing that it was creating a <strong><em><a aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/ape-macau-enters-sports-business\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new business unit<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, solely destined to expand into sports and sports-related entertainment in Macau, including sponsorship and promotion of sports events and the operation of sports entertainment venues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The firm has now said that its subsidiary APE Sports and Entertainment Limited would partner with the government to organise and sponsor events in a wide range of sports, from esports to karate, mixed martial arts and even surfing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CEO and Executive Director Herman Ng told Macau News Agency it could even get involved in large international events such as the Macau Grand Prix or Ultimate Fighting Championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another goal will be to partner with local businesses and hotels to promote sports bars, and to create more incentives to attract tourists and sponsor local community activities and tournaments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ng admitted that due to the Covid-19 pandemic APE&#8217;s traditional machines and technical services business was slow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cAt the moment we don\u2019t have any contracts but are planning to expand after the outbreak finishes. We are just waiting for this situation to finish and we\u2019ll start.
