Positive EBITDA of LKR340m in Q2 marks a clear turnaround from the prior-year loss as hotel occupancy and gaming activity rise.

Sri Lanka.- City of Dreams Sri Lanka generated positive EBITDA of LKR340m (US$1.02m) in the second quarter of the 2026/27 financial year, marking an improvement from a LKR64m loss in the same period a year earlier. The integrated resort, developed by John Keells Holdings (JKH), continues to scale up its operations, with higher hotel occupancy and increased casino activity supporting its performance.

For the quarter ended September 30, the property reported a pre-tax loss of LKR1.19bn (US$3.5m), down from LKR3.39bn (US$10m) in the prior-year period. However, the improvement also reflected a LKR896m (US$2m) exchange gain on its foreign-currency loan, compared with a LKR523m (US$1.7m) exchange loss a year earlier. Depreciation, amortisation and interest expenses totalled LKR2.43bn (US$7.2m) amid the ongoing costs of moving towards full operation.

City of Dreams Sri Lanka includes the Cinnamon Life and Nuwa hotels, a casino and a shopping mall. Nuwa, the casino and the mall opened in August 2025, so the property was still in its early operating stages during part of the previous-year comparison.

The casino, operated by Melco Resorts & Entertainment, has seen activity increase. JKH recognised fixed rental income from the gaming operation during the quarter, while variable rent will become payable once the casino reaches an agreed performance threshold.
