Bangladesh.- Police have arrested a man in Rajshahi<\/strong> over alleged involvement in online gambling. Investigators claim to have found gambling applications, cryptocurrency tools and transaction records on electronic devices seized from his residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Masud Rana<\/strong>, was detained late on September 29 by the Detective Branch of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police<\/strong> during an operation at 11.15pm at a rented flat on the fourth floor of Ekushey Building<\/strong> in the Padma residential area. The operation resulted in the seizure of 11 mobile phones, a computer, a router, a UPS and Tk1 lakh (US$815) in cash. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the material reportedly identified was information relating to Polymarket, including dollar transactions associated with user accounts on two iPhones. Investigators also mention cryptocurrency-related applications, VPN services and Telegram on the seized devices. One device allegedly contained Telegram messages listing more than 500 Gmail accounts and passwords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to police, Rana admitted during preliminary questioning that he had been betting on various online gambling websites for a prolonged period. A case was registered against him at Chandima Police Station. He was later arraigned before court and remanded in custody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case comes less than three months after Bangladesh introduced its Gambling Prevention Act 2026, which expanded the country\u2019s legal framework to cover gambling conducted through digital and online channels.<\/p>\n\n\n
