International visitors&#8217; tourism-related card spending reached KRW 14.018 trillion (US$10.3bn) through August, up 48.5 per cent year-on-year and the highest level since records began.The government said the growth reflects measures to ease entry procedures and strengthen market-specific tourism promotion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">China and Japan drive inbound growth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Visitors from <strong>Greater China<\/strong> reached 7.01 million during the eight months, up 28.9 per cent year-on-year. Arrivals from mainland China increased 29 per cent to 4.82 million and those from Taiwan 1.66 million, up 32.2 per cent. <strong>Japan <\/strong>remained another major source market, with 2.70 million arrivals, representing 17.5 per cent growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Arrivals from Indonesia rose 22.5 per cent to 295,000, while the Philippines provided 454,000 visitors, up 16.1 per cent. Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia also contributed year-on-year increases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The government has linked the figures to changes designed to <strong>lower entry barriers <\/strong>for Southeast Asian travellers. Since March 30, South Korea has eased multiple-entry visa requirements for nationals of 11 Southeast Asian countries, including the Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia. A temporary visa-free pilot programme for Indonesian group tourists began in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The<strong> Korea Tourism Organization<\/strong> has run promotional campaigns, with marketing efforts have focused heavily on K-Culture and local content creators.
