Japan.- \u014ct\u014d, a small town in Japan\u2019s Fukuoka Prefecture<\/strong>, is reportedly exploring the possibility of hosting an integrated resort with a casino as part of efforts to attract investment and address population decline. The town, which has around 5,000 residents, has been holding briefings since mid-September and plans to provide more details after gathering residents\u2019 views. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several IR operators have reportedly visited the town to assess its location and access to Fukuoka and Kitakyushu airports, as well as nearby tourist destinations in Oita and Kumamoto prefectures. It’s estimated that a potential project could generate around JPY1tn (US$6.37bn) in economic impact and create 7,000 jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mayor Joji Nagahara<\/strong> has suggested that an IR as a potential way to attract businesses and support regional development amid the long-term decline of the Tagawa area following the closure of its coal mines. Japan\u2019s next IR application window is scheduled to run from early May to November 2027<\/a>. \u014ct\u014d can’t apply directly to the national government under Japan\u2019s IR framework because of its size so would need backing from a larger regional authority.<\/p>\n\n\n
