Hun Manet said the gaming sector contributes only a small share of Cambodia’s overall economy and represents a minor portion of tourism and services industries. He said inspections had turned up cases of previously licensed casinos operating out of spaces as small as a single row house, which he said underscored the need to reassess licensing and renewal standards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cambodia-China Times reported that authorities examined 195 licensed casinos as part of a nationwide crackdown on telecommunications fraud carried out over the past year and that at least 72 of those have since ceased operations<\/strong>, either through licence revocation or failure to meet renewal conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The prime minister has also confirmed that online gambling operations tied to land-based casinos will be suspended from early October as part of efforts to combat online scams and illicit finance. Earlier this month, Interior Minister Sar Sokha<\/strong> said authorities intend to put in place a “clear and effective management system” for online gambling before such operations are allowed to resume.
